The Remnant of Obama

It is the fifth week of the Trump administration and the remnant of Obama is almost completely removed. In this week Trump repelled the order of the former President which made it legal for Transgender people to go, for example, on the toilet of the gender they identify with. Even Betsy DaVos, our friend of two weeks ago, was against this because she thinks it may lead to discrimination, bullying, and harassment. She announced the following for here Department:

We have a responsibility to protect every student in America and ensure that they have the freedom to learn and thrive in a safe and trusted environment. This is not merely a federal mandate, but a moral obligation no individual, school, district or state can abdicate. At my direction, the Department’s Office for Civil Rights remains committed to investigating all claims of discrimination, bullying and harassment against those who are most vulnerable in our schools.

~ Betsy DaVos, Secretary of Education (The Whole Statement can be found here).

In the end, Attorney General Jeff Sessions (another friend of ours 😛 ) persuaded Trump, as Breitbart claims.

Human Rights activists strongly fight this change in federal law, because they say it’s a civil rights issue, not a state’s nor local issue.

Personally, I have a kinda conservative view on this topic. I think there are two genders defined by Biology and Society. You either belong to one or another. You can change your biological sex and thus your gender which gives you the right to go to the new gender you have. When you have reasons for this it is acceptable but I don’t think that you can just say: “I’m a woman now and thus I can go to the Women’s toilet.”. If you intend to change your biological gender you should be allowed to go to the toilet you wish to. (This is a much-discussed topic. I look forward to having debates with you.)

Pictures of the Week

Jim Mattis, Secretary of Defence (USA), at the Munich Security Conference on Feb 18 in Munich, Germany.

Vice president Pence and Secretary of Defence Jim Mattis attended the Munich Security Conference alongside with Germany’s chancellor Angela Merkel and Bill Gates (as well as many others). Pence tried to reconfirm the bond between Europe and America which was under much pressure since Trump took office. Many newspapers claim hat it didn’t really help to re-strengthen the connection (The whole Speech of the VP can be found here).

Trump got under pressure over golfing.

That was because in the campaign said he wouldn’t go golfing anymore because it is so much he has to change. White House Officials said on Sunday announced he’d be in meetings all day, but his alibi was blown up by the professional golfer he was playing with. This is another time Trump reportedly lied.

Executive Orders and other Legislation

Nothing was passed by Trump nor was something passed on by the Congress to him.

Other Topics

H.R. McMaster is the new National Security Advisor. I hope he lasts longer than the last one (see last week’s article for more).

VP Pence also visited the EU institutions in Brussels, Belgium after his speech in Munich. There was some more feedback on this by European Officials on that. But since Trump’s remarks on the NATO, the European states prepare for more spending on their defense budgets’.

Question of the Week

Will the NATO stay together or will it become ‘obsolete’ as Trump said?
